Air Australia is seeking permission to operate flights to Vietnam
New low-cost carrier Air Australia is seeking permission to operate flights to Vietnam from Australian major cities starting March 2012.
The Australian reported Friday that the Brisbane-based airline plans to operate four flights per week from Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane. The carrier said in its application sent to the International Air Services Commission that capacity would be fully utilized by February 2013.
The report did not say which cities in Vietnam Air Australia will fly to.
The newest carrier in Australia, which opened as Strategic Airlines in 2009, officially changed its name to Air Australia from November 15.
The airline said it will initially serve international tourist destinations like Bali, Phuket and Honolulu. It has also been granted permission to fly to China and the US.
Two Vietnamese carriers, Vietnam Airlines and Jetstar Pacific, are currently operating flights between Australia and Vietnam.
