Located right at the centre of Da Lat city, in the height of 1.447m, Ho Xuan Huong is a valley crossed by Camly stream, and had been the home of Lach settlers from the early beginning…
In 1999, considering the Counhac Professor officer’s initiative, constructors that time started stopping the stream to dig a lake. They built up another dam to make two lakes in 1923.
Due to the so strong destruction of 1932 storm, both lakes broke. Till 1934-35, a new stone made dam was constructed by an architect named Tran Dang Khoa, which made up a another big lake that was named “ Grand lac” by some French in Viet Nam.
Its perimeter is 5000m, and it is 25 hectares in width with a waning moon like shape. The calm surface is so like a big mirror reflecting old forest around, straight lines of slender willow and exceptionally greater in springs when cherry flowers everywhere, which make us image a lively face of a nice girl…!
Since 1953, it has been named after the famous gentle poetess in 19th century- Ho Xuan Huong.
