According to the Vietnam travel agency, walking streets help will help promote Hanoi to international friends.
Hanoi is piloting six additional walking streets around Hoan Kiem Lake in Hanoi, beside the four old ones on the Hang Dao – Dong Xuan route, beginning on December 1.
The ten streets: Hang Dao, Hang Ngang, Hang Duong, Dong Xuan, Le Lai, Le Thach, Le Thai To, Dinh Tien Hoang, Hang Khay and Trang Tien (the section connecting Hang Khay and Ngo Quyen), will be designated for pedestrians only every weekend from 6am on Saturday to 10pm on Sunday and also on major holidays.
During this time, all motor vehicles will be banned from the piloted areas except for electric buses that carry tourists on sightseeing tours.
Increasing the number of designated walking streets from four to ten streets will allow both residents and tourists to walk more easily in areas around the Old Quarter.
