During his meeting with Da Nang People’s Committee Chairman Van Huu Chien on Wednesday, the Minister Counsellor of the Japanese Ambassador in Viet Nam, Mr Hideo Suzuki, said that many cultural activities will take place in Da Nang to mark the 40th anniversary of Viet Nam-Japan diplomatic ties. The Japanese diplomat added that he would like the city’s authorities to create favourable conditions for holding these programmes successfully. The visiting guest also promised to work with Vietnam Airlines to discuss the opening of new Japan-Da Nang direct flights as soon as possible.Chairman Chien told his guest that recent years have seen a significant increase in the number of Japanese businesses investing in many aspects of the city. These have included manufacturing pulp for export, processing agro-aquatic products, producing electronic components, and creating software, plus building the Hai Van Tunnel and the 1st phase of the Tien Sa Port, the city leader added. Mr Chien remarked that his city is now home to 87 Japanese companies and representative offices, with a total investment of 350 million USD. These have helped to create about 30,000 jobs for local residents. Chairman Chien said that Da Nang is striving to become the most dynamic city in the central region and highlands, with a focus on developing transportation and technical infrastructure. He also expressed his desire that Japanese businesses would continue to invest in the 2nd phase of the Tien Sa Port expansion project, and local hi-tech and centralised IT zones. Special attention will also be given to promoting the opening of new Japan-Da Nang direct flights as soon as possible, building the Viet Nam-Japan International Exchange Centre at the Ngu Hanh Son Cultural Park, and other activities to call for more Japanese investment into the city.
