Ministry requests tax reduction to boost tourism

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has sent a request to the Prime Minister asking for a reduction of 50 percent on Value Added Tax and 50 percent on Income Tax for this year, to help businesses in the trade and tourism sectors to boost growth in present difficult times.According to the ministry, the price of essential commodities like gasoline, electricity and also land tax have increased, resulting in a hike on many domestic tourist services, which in neighboring countries are on a falling trend.
This has affected the competitiveness of Vietnamese companies and discouraged further development in the domestic services sector.
The Ministry has thus requested the Prime Minister to instruct the Ministry of Finance to cut down taxes and submit a related proposal to the National Assembly at the earliest.
The Ministry also favored the VAT refund policy for foreign visitors to encourage more shopping in Vietnam.
Province and City people’s committees must also strictly handle those cheating foreigners or seen stealing and robbing their property. Action to prevent such social evils is necessary to ensure public order and safety for visitors at local tourist destinations.
