Kon Tum reconstructs ethnic minorities’ fests

According to the Central Highlands Kon Tum province’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the province has successfully re-created 19 of the local ethnic minorities’ fests in an attempt to revive these eroding traditional festive events.
The fests include B’rau minority’s “Chong o bơn h’lư” (rice harvest celebration), Gie – Trieng minority’s “Cha Kcha” (coal eating) and “M’ne” (Xo Dang minority’s Thanksgiving).
All the fests are reproduced based on the originals by the peoples’ village patriarchs and locals, though obsolete, inappropriate customs have been removed.
Following the reconstructions, the minorities will keep holding their own fests every year.
This is a huge effort by the provincial culture department to revive its traditional festivities and safeguard its intangible heritages.
