A project to build a cultural and tourism village

According to Vietnam travel compnies,a project to build a cultural and tourism village showcasing Vietnamese ethnic groups was introduced to overseas Vietnamese and French investors at a roundtable in Paris on December 10.

The project will be built on a total land and water surface area of 1,544 hectares, comprised of the villages of 54 Vietnamese ethnic groups, cultural and entertainment centres, travel services centres, a World Cultural Heritage area and park surrounding Dong Mo Lake.

This is a national project with top priority given to preserving and developing the cultural identities of 54 ethnic groups, said Lam Van Khang, deputy head of the village management board under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Located about 40km west of the capital Hanoi, the village will become one of the major tourist attractions in northern Vietnam and Hanoi in particular, said Khang.

Construction of the project began in 2007 and the village was inaugurated in September 2010 to mark the capital city’s 1,000th anniversary.

Khang said the village has completed infrastructure construction and is calling on businesses to invest in functional centres.

“Many foreign investors are showing keen interest in the project and our task is to select feasible plans,” said the cultural official.

The Prime Minister approved the project in May 2008, which will be carried out in two phases. In phase I from 2008-2010, 34 out of 54 villages of ethnic groups have been built and technical infrastructure facilities have been built.

All components of the project will be completed in phase II, lasting through 2015.
