Travelers from Malaysia can cross into Thailand by four overland border crossings, two on the west coast, one in the center and the other on the east coast. Through tickets are not available for trains linking Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur or Singapore, but travelers can make the trip on express trains via the Thai-Malaysian border at Pedang Besar. An overnight transit in Butterworth (Malaysia) is usually necessary to make the train connections on either side of the Malaysian border.

• Bangkok-Butterworth leaves from Hua Lampong (Bangkok Railway Station) daily at 2.20 pm. The fare (only Bangkok-Padang Besar) is 767 baht for first class, 360 baht for second class and 156 baht for third class
• Butterworth-Singapore departs 4 times daily at 8.00 a.m., 3.15 p.m. and 10.00 p.m. (two trains depart simultaneously). The fares are 127 Malaysian Ringgit for first class, 60 Ringgit for second class and 34 Ringgit for third class
In case of sleeping berth, passengers need to pay supplementary charges:For the first class of air-conditioned, the charge per person with double cabin is 520 baht
• For the second class of air-conditioned, the charges per person are 220-270 baht (rapid train) and 250-320 baht (special express train).
• For the second class, the charges per person are 100-150 baht (rapid train) and 130-200 baht (special express train).

Please note that there are supplementary charges, from Padang to Butterworth, with 200 baht per person in express train and 250 baht per person in air-conditioned of the first and the second class.
