Hoi An gets set to host regional choir competition

More than 300 artists from 11 troupes from Indonesia, Australia, South Korea, Malaysia and Taiwan have registered to take part in the 3rd Viet Nam International Choir Competition in Hoi An City on June 20-21, the city's Culture and Information Centre said yesterday.
Indonesia will send seven troupes with over 200 instrumentalists, while Australia's Voice Weavers, South Korea's Choir of Korean Choral Society and Taiwan's Panan Choir will also vie for the top prize at the competition.
The host country has sent four troupes from Hue city's Academy of Music, the Catholic Church Choir of Hoi An and culture centres of Quang Nam Province and Hoi An City to compete at the annual event.
It's expected that over 500 artists from 15 foreign troupes and four domestic groups are set to perform at the two-day concert.
The opening ceremony will take place at the city's Agribank Resort at 8.30pm on June 20.
Participating troupes are also set to perform at the Street Choir performance, titled International Melody, in the old quarter on the night of June 21.
The International Choir tournament is part of the 5th Quang Nam Heritage Journeys Festival, which will be organised in Hoi An, My Son Sanctuary, Tam Ky City and Cham Island from June 21-26.
