A flower festival entitled ‘Hanoi – A Rendezvous of Streets and Flowers’ opened with an arts performance at the Ly Thai To Monument in Hanoi city centre on December 30.
The opening ceremony was attended by Party Central Committee (PCC) member, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MoCST) Hoang Tuan Anh; and PCC member, Chairman of the Hanoi Municipal People’s Committee Nguyen The Thao.
The four-day festival is arranged with four themes, introducing visitors to the culture of the northern region, the country’s national heritage, and the legend of Vietnam as well as a variety of other displays.
The ‘Northern Region’s Culture’ is represented by a work called ‘Song Long Mo Hoi’ (Two Dragons Opening the Festival), decorated with various kinds of fruit, in addition to numerous floral exhibitions and flower vendors.
‘The Legend of Vietnam’, by artisan Nguyen Manh Hung, features a dragon and a phoenix made of hundreds of bamboo fans, illustrating the legend of Lac Long Quan and Au Co, the creators of the Vietnamese people.
Numerous photo exhibitions, floral pictures, and typical tourism products of Hanoi are on show along with floral displays of Vietnam's tangible and intangible heritage, including the architecture in Hanoi, the gong culture of the Central Highlands, and the ancient city of Hoi An.
A flower arrangement competition and a ‘Hanoi Tourism Festival’ programme are also scheduled during the event.
The flower festival, held jointly by the MoCST and the Hanoi Municipal People’s Committee, aims to attract more visitors to Hanoi during the New Year holidays. This is a good news for Vietnam travel company.
