Phu My Hung Spring Flower Festival 2012 will take place from January 16 to 21 (the 23rd to 28th of lunar December) in Phu My Hung urban area in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 7.
The “Hoa dong co noi” (countryside flowers) festival is an annual activity of Phu My Hung Corp and HCMC Ornamental Creature Association ahead of the traditional Lunar New Year holiday, or Tet.
The organizers will use seven hectares at The Crescent area to introduce images of rice and corn fields, melon farms and haystack. Apart from a 360-meter long flower street, there will be 20 wooden boats carrying flowers to reproduce a bustling wharf in the countryside at Tet.
Visitors will have the opportunity to savor a range of rustic dishes including khoai mi (manioc) and khoai lang (sweet potato) and join in a flower lantern release on the river at night. Moreover, there is a shopping area consisting of around 500 stands that offer ornamentals from gardeners, about 200 other that sell Tet specialties, and a food and beverage area.
The organizers will also hold an exhibition of furnishing items made from recycled materials, including tea tables made from tires, bird cages from fans, fish tanks from computer monitors, decorative lights from paper cups and parallel sentences from CDs. This event is designed to raise public awareness of environmental protection.
This year, the organizers will spend VND250 million on prizes for an ornamental contest.
