Danang prepares for next month’s fireworks

The Danang International Fireworks Competition (DIFC) 2013 will take place from April 29-30, instead of March 29 as previous years. This year’s event themed Tinh yeu song Han (A love for Han River) will have the participation of five teams, the hosts Danang, Italian-based Parente Fireworks who won in 2011-2012, Japan’s Tamaya Kitahara team who came third in 2010 and two first-timers Meirose Pyrotechnics from the U.S. and Russian-based Khan team.Organizers also announced that DIFC will be held biennially instead of annually to have better preparation for the event and make it easier to call for donations from businesses and organizations during the tough economic times. The People’s Committee of Danang City agreed to a proposal from the local Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to sell tickets at B4-B5 areas (equivalent to around 9,000 seats) instead of invitation letters as previous years. Tickets at these locations will be priced at VND400,000. Those who buy tickets at C1-C2-C3 areas will be charged from VND200,000 to VND300,000. Organizers will issue around 34,000 tickets, a rise of 1,500 year-on-year.Especially, tourists to the event will witness two new bridges Rong (dragon) and Tran Thi Ly. Rong is the sixth bridge spanning Han River and is 660 meters long divided into six lanes. The dragon-shaped bridge weighs 9,000 tons and will soon be able to eject water and fire. The local authority expects to set a Guinness World Record for the biggest steel dragon in the world. Tran Thi Ly is a cable bridge with its pillar in a shape of an upside-down Y letter.
