Fighting Festival

Almost festivals in Phu Tho organize fighting between two men. The fighting match takes place in different forms in the spring.
Many areas hold “custom fighting”, which means that the fighting matches are necessarily held. Custom fighting is held in many communes like Tay Coc (Doan Hung district), Vinh Mo, Chu Hoa, Cao Xa, Hy Chuong (Lam Thao district), Sai Nga (Cam Khe district), etc. Fighting matches must take place despite heavy rain and storm.

“Fighting for prize” is a popular form of fighting. The fighting competition gives prizes for fighters coming from all parts of the country. Prizes are not valuable. They are simply some pieces of silk, three tea bags or a pack of pipe tobacco.
