Day 1 Hanoi City - Traditional Villages (L)
Around 8:00AM, our tour guide will pick you up at your hotel to begin your traditional village tour. Starting at the riverside village of Bat Trang (Vietnam’s most famous pottery village), our guide will walk you through the ceramic trade, production and history that has flourished here for over 500 years.
The village itself glows 24/7 from the hundreds of kilns fired each day and night. Strolling around these various cottage-based industries, we can watch craftsmen traditionally forming, painting and glazing their products for a truly memorable experience. From Bat Trang we will visit the But Thap Pagoda, one of the most famous pagodas in all of Vietnam. Inside we will explore and learn about the large collection of ancient objects and statues, which are considered to be national masterpieces of 17th century wood carving. Among these pieces are the Tay Thien Dong Do Lien Dai To statue and the Quan Am statue, which has one thousand eyes and one thousand arms, which symbolize the reverence and beauty of religion. After visiting the But Thap Pagoda, we will head for the traditional painting village of Dong Ho.
Here local craftsmen make “giay do” paper and paint them with traditional designs. All the paper is handmade, some of which are still traditionally made with all natural products.
From Dong Ho we will visit Dong Ky, the furniture & inlay making village. Here locals create stunning pieces of furniture inlaid with mother of pearl and finished with layers of clear lacquer- a highly intensive process.
You will get the chance to see all the delicate procedures of how the mother of pearl is delicately sawed, refined, painted taxingly set into the wood. Our tour will end around 5 PM and our driver will return you back to your hotel.
We would like to express our sincere thanks for considering and (hopefully) choosing to travel with MinMax. We are confident that you will thoroughly enjoy every moment of your trip and every corner of our beautiful country.
