Day 2 Hanoi City Tour (B,L)
We begin our tour of Hanoi by visiting the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. Here you can experience the architectural splendor and historical importance of Uncle Ho's final resting place- a national treasure for all Vietnamese. Adjacent to the mausoleum is Ho Chi Minh's former “House on Stilts,” where the leader spent a great deal of his free time. From here we visit the nearby One Pillar Pagoda, an 11th century temple built by King Ly Thai To. This pagoda is not only historically and religiously significant, but is also an important symbol for the people of Hanoi.
Continuing on, we visit one of the city’s most iconic destinations: the Temple of Literature (Quoc Tu Giam). Vietnam’s first University, this 11th century establishment boasts perfectly manicured gardens and extremely well-preserved architecture, offering visitors some excellent insight into Vietnam’s rich past.
We will have lunch at local restaurant and then pay a visit to the Vietnam Ethnology Museum, which focuses on the 54 officially recognized ethnic groups in Vietnam. After that we will head to Hoan Kiem Lake to see the peaceful waters and visit the iconic Ngoc Son Temple. You will then be transferred back to your hotel and spend the evening in Hanoi.

Day 3 Hanoi - Mai Chau (B,L,D)
Mai Chau is located in the heart of a beautiful valley. It is a world away from the hustle and bustle of Hanoi City. The modern village itself is actually quite an unappealing sprawl, however, as you emerge into the rice fields and rural living, it is transformed into a true paradise. This stunning area is mostly comprised of ethnic White Thai who live in hatched-roof stilted houses on split bamboo floors- a unique visit for all foreigners!
The tour will begin around 8 AM with a hotel pick up. You will spend the morning driving through local villages and the valleys of Ha Tay and Hoa Binh province. We will take a lunch break at Hoa Binh town, where we will visit the Hoa Binh hydro-powered dam: the biggest in Vietnam. We will continue up the road to the hills of the Kun pass, which offer spectacular views over the valleys and mountains below. Finally we will arrive in Lac village, home of the Thai people in Mai Chau. We will check into a local a stilt house and then take a short walk around the area. After dinner, you will have a chance to join in with the traditional dance of the White Thai people and taste Ruou Can (a special wine of the locals made from rice and a kind of tree leaves). Overnight in Thai’s house on stilts.
-
Day 4 Mai Chau - Son La (B,L,D)
After breakfast, we will drive to Son La, stopping in a local farm in Moc Chau to experience the hundreds of giant grass-fed cows. You will quickly know why this is the biggest milk producing center in Vietnam! Continuing on towards Son La we will enjoy the views of the surrounding Northern Mountains. We will finally arrive in Son La around noon and check into your hotel before visiting the “Son La prison" dating back to the French war. The rest of the day you can spend walking around the town, spending the evening in Son La.
-
Day 5 Son La - Dien Bien Phu (B,L,D)
After breakfast, we will drive to Dien Bien Phu. We will visit the very primitive village of the Black Thai’s, where you can witness their very basic conditions of life. We will continue on towards the biggest daily hill tribe market in Thuan Chau, where you will have a great opportunity to see different ethnic groups, local fruits and food.
The experience will only get better as we reach the top of the historical and amazing Pha Din Pass. Here you will have the opportunity to take photos and listen to stories, specifically ones about the French war. We will visit another Green H’Mong village nearby, enjoy a local lunch in Tuan Giao and continue our drive to Dien Bien. We will spend the evening here in Dien Bien.
-
Day 6 Dien Bien Phu - Lai Chau (B,L,D)
In the morning of Day 6 we will visit the museum and sites of Dien Bien Phu. After this we will drive to Lai Chau and visit a village of the Black Dao People, where you may even be able to see the elderly women’s art of hair make-up. From here we will walk along the Da River before reaching your hotel, situated in the very lovely & quiet town of Muong Lay (Lai Chau). Overnight in Muong Lay.
-
Day 7 Lai Chau - Sa Pa (B,L,D)
From Lai Chau we will drive to the famous town of Sapa. During your drive, you will see many different ethnic villages of the Lao, Lu, Black Dao, Tien Dao, Day and Red H’mong before reaching the highest pass of Vietnam: Hoang Lien Son. We will stop over on the top of the pass (called “Heaven’s Gate”) for a wonderful, panoramic view of the amazing valley and Fan Xi Pan Mountain- the highest mountain in Indochina (Roof of Vietnam). You will also have the chance to visit the “Silver Waterfall” before reaching your hotel in Sapa (Overnight in Sapa).

You will have the opportunity to visit some local families along the way and learn about their unique culture and lifestyles. In the late afternoon, your tour guide and driver will transfer you back to Sapa town. Overnight in Sapa.
